About the Naeema Project

The Naeema Project is a grassroots community and environmental initiative based in Blackburn.

Taking its name from Naeem — a garden of bliss — the project seeks to create small reflections of peace, beauty, and care within everyday community spaces. Through practical action, Naeema Project brings people together to improve local environments, strengthen wellbeing, and foster a shared sense of purpose.

The project is rooted in universal values of Justice, Excellence, and Care, welcoming individuals from all backgrounds to contribute positively to their surroundings.

Our Dream

The Naeema Project envisions a transformed Blackburn — where nature, community, and purpose come together to create welcoming spaces for people of all backgrounds.

Our journey unfolds in three phases.

Phase One focuses on connection through nature, bringing people together via walks, cycling, gardening, and community clean-ups that promote wellbeing, belonging, and care for shared green spaces.

Phase Two establishes a permanent base for growth, offering a dedicated space for environmental learning, community cohesion, and interfaith dialogue, strengthened through collaboration with local organisations.

Phase Three realises the long-term vision: restoring neglected land into botanical gardens for the soul. Inspired by the Eden Project, these gardens will unite nature, wildlife, and sustainability, each themed around universal virtues such as compassion, forgiveness, charity, and peace. Together, they serve as living reminders that sincere acts of goodness can transform both our communities and ourselves.

What We Do (Phase 1)

During phase 1, Naeema Project focuses on simple, high-impact activities that directly benefit the local community, including:

  • Outdoor activities such as walks and hikes that promote physical and mental wellbeing
  • Community service through litter picking and clearing walking paths
  • Community gardening to restore neglected spaces and nurture shared ownership

These activities are designed to be inclusive, low-cost, and scalable, laying strong foundations for long-term community impact.

Our Intention and Aims

At the Naeema Project, our intention is to transform the Blackburn community through nature — using shared spaces as places of healing, connection, and positive action.

We believe that access to nature, meaningful service, and strong relationships can restore balance in an increasingly fast-paced and fragmented world. Through simple, practical initiatives, we aim to create environments where individuals and communities can flourish together.

Our Aims

  1. Promote Wellbeing Through Nature
We actively promote the physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing benefits of engaging with the natural world. By encouraging outdoor activity, environmental care, and time spent in green spaces, we support healthier, more resilient communities.
  2. Create a Culture that Rewards Selfless Service
We seek to nurture a society that values and celebrates selfless acts of service. By encouraging people to care for their surroundings and for one another, we help build a culture rooted in responsibility, generosity, and shared pride.
  3. Tackle Islamophobia and Encourage British Values
Through visible, positive community action, the Naeema Project aims to challenge misconceptions, build trust, and foster understanding. Our work reflects shared British values such as fairness, compassion, respect, and civic responsibility, helping to strengthen social cohesion across all backgrounds.
