What we do
HEALTH 4 MANKIND
Good health is about more than just medicine and treatment, it includes all aspects of life – that is why we at Benefit Mankind provide vital medical aid when it matters the most, we support various health projects which include urgent treatments and operations, eye cataract surgeries, medical clinics, cleft lip operations, wheelchairs, provide school meals to prevent child malnutrition and much more. When a disaster or crisis hits a country, Benefit Mankind provides humanitarian aid that often includes emergency health care and distribution of clean water to prevent illness. Our teams also support long-term development projects, such as rebuilding destroyed water and sanitation facilities, or constructing new facilities for populations lacking them. Projects like these reduce illness rates and save lives.
Across the globe, over 250 million children are lacking in basic literacy skills. Every child deserves a quality education. It is the key to a brighter future, offering the chance to learn critical skills, grow in self-confidence and escape the brutal cycle of poverty. What’s more, not only does accessing education help each child build their own futures, but it also impacts on generation after generation within even a single family, even bringing blessings to the wider community. At Benefit Mankind, we are committed to breaking the ongoing cycle of poverty that so many children face. We want to ensure that all children receive at least primary education and that adults are taught to read and write too.
ORPHANS OF MANKIND
Each day millions of children across the world face extraordinary hardship. Struggling to survive amongst wars, disasters, drought or disease – they all too often become orphaned as a result. Without a mother or father to care for them, these children have become susceptible to abuse, neglect, and many forms of mistreatment. Many orphans are unfortunately exposed to extreme violence, as well as psychological and emotional distress after losing one or both of their parents. Benefit Mankind allow orphans to be sponsored during the month of Ramadhan which covers education, medical aid, clothing, food aid & most importantly love and care.
Benefit Mankind helps poor communities to improve their lives. With a focus on sustainable development, our programmes give poor people better access to life and the prospect to improve their livelihoods and lift themselves out of poverty, permanently. We offer empowering women through our sewing machine program which includes training, we also provide shop openings to families that can work which gives them that new start to life and we provide fishermen the ability to earn a living with our canoes and bicycle programmes, at the same time we offer farmers the opportunity to do what they’re good at with our farmers kits.
WATER 4 MANKIND
Access to clean water and basic sanitation is a basic human right, yet somehow despite living in an incredible world of technology and luxury, millions of people wake up every day not knowing where their next drop of water will come from. In places like Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Malawi, Gaza, Yemen and Indonesia people are living in extreme poverty and these lack of basic facilities result in people having to walk miles every day to get access to clean and pure water. Diarrhoea kills more children every year than AIDS, malaria and measles combined. 884 million people across the world do not have access to clean water, this equates to nearly one in eight people worldwide. 2.5 billion people do not have access to adequate sanitation, this equates to approximately two out of every five people across the world.
WIDOWS OF MANKIND
There are many widows with children living in refugee camps with no support, no protection, and very little to eat, unfortunately they are the most vulnerable displaced refugees. They have no breadwinner, no male relatives in most cases, they simply roam from camp to camp looking for shelter and food. All around the world, there is an all-time high for single-mother households. According to stats, around 51% of the single-mother families, today are either divorced, separated, and widowed. In many cases, this is the result of unjust wars, chronic illness and natural disasters. Benefit Mankind want to ease the plight of widows by supporting them in many countries with daily essentials with your support
WE CARE 4 MANKIND
Islam teaches its followers to take care of the earth. Muslims believe that humans should act as guardians of the planet, and that they will be held accountable by Almighty God for their actions. This concept of stewardship is a powerful one and was used in the Islamic Declaration on Climate Change to propel change in environmental policy globally. In fact, Muslims need to look no further than the Quran for guidance, where there are approximately 200 verses concerning the environment.
Muslims are taught that “greater indeed than the creation of man is the creation of the heavens and the earth”. The reality is that nothing could be more Islamic than protecting Almighty God’s most precious creation: the earth. Benefit Mankind as an organisation are also stepping up its environment care by using technology to send receipts to donors instead of printing and posting, at the same time we have planted over 5,000 olive trees to help our global goals of a greener world.
VISION 4 MANKIND
Our vision is of a world where avoidable blindness is eliminated, and people with disabilities have the same rights as everyone else. We can only get there thanks to the generosity of our supporters and donors, so we aim to be as transparent as possible so you can be sure your money is being used wisely. Through our ambitious vision at Benefit Mankind, we have a strategy we aim to transform the eye research landscape.
We know that through the power of revolutionary science we can transform the lives of people affected by eye disease. We also work with children, adults with inherited eye disease and their families to find new treatments. Sight loss doesn’t always start in the eye, which is why we also fund research into sight loss caused by other diseases, like diabetes, dementia and stroke.
Shelter protects you from the sun, insects, wind, rain, snow and hot or cold temperatures. It also gives you a feeling of being safe. Each year thousands of families lose their homes due to natural disasters or man-made wars. Benefit Mankind are proud to be able to initiate significant and inspiring changes in the lives of so many of the world’s poor communities. Since our inception we have provided hundreds of families either with temporary shelters or permanent housing. To support the shelter projects, kindly visit www.benefitmankind.co.uk/shelter
